Broncos Waive/Injured K Elliott Fry
The Denver Broncos' kicking competition could be over as quickly as it began.
On Tuesday, the Broncos waived kicker Elliott Fry with an injury designation, the team announced.
Long snapper Jack Landherr was signed in a corresponding roster move.
A former undrafted free agent and something of an NFL journeyman, Fry joined the club in May following the release of longtime K Brandon McManus. Fry arrived having attempted only six career field goals, five of which were makes.
Perhaps not coincidentally, Fry was pink-slipped after missing an FG during last week's preseason loss to the Arizona Cardinals. He did, however, drill a 55-yarder and his lone extra-point try. It's unclear if he was injured in that game.
Fry's departure leaves veteran Brett Maher, signed in late July, as the lone kicker on Denver's roster. Maher also missed an FG attempt and had another blocked amid the 18-17 defeat at Arizona.
“We had a blocked field goal and we gave up penetration at left guard with the young player, head coach Sean Payton rued in his post-game remarks. "There were two longer field goal attempts, but that’s not the whole special teams. We obviously have to be better in that unit. Keep working the timing of it and the protection. We will look at the film.”
