Broncos Waive WR Nick Williams, Officially Add OLB Frank Clark

Williams was signed on June 5.

Requiring a roster spot for newly-signed edge rusher Frank Clark, whose addition was made official Tuesday, the Denver Broncos waived wide receiver Nick Williams, per the NFL transaction wire.

An undrafted rookie out of UNLV, Williams lasted eight days on Denver's offseason squad, having put pen to paper June 5. The Aurora native and Cherry Creek High School grad began his collegiate career at CSU-Pueblo, where he totaled 107 receptions for 1,428 yards and nine TDs across 35 games.

Williams was not present Tuesday for the start of the Broncos' three-day mandatory minicamp.

Clark, meanwhile, tied up the loose ends on his incentive-laden, one-year contract, worth up to $7.5 million. Broncos head coach Sean Payton said the former Chiefs pass-rusher won't attend minicamp — he has an upcoming Super Bowl ring ceremony that'll be "a little awkward" — but noted that Clark will join the team for the start of training camp next month.

“We’ll find a role… with where he can help us," Payton told reporters.

Clark is expected to play outside linebacker under defensive coordinator Vance Joseph and should receive first-string reps in place of OLB Baron Browning, who's recovering from arthoscopic knee surgery. Browning will begin the 2023 regular season on the Physically Unable to Perform list, Payton revealed.
