BREAKING: Buccaneers' Quarterback Carted Off, Taken To Hospital After Scary Hit Against Jets
With the clock ticking down in the third quarter of tonight's preseason matchup between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Jets, a frightening situation occurred.
With the Buccaneers leading the Jets 10-6, third-string quarterback, John Wolford, hit the ground awkwardly after being tackled by Jets' defensive lineman, Jalyn Holmes, behind the line of scrimmage.

After making the tackle from behind, Holme's momentum appeared to maximize the force in what would have otherwise been a routine sack. Players on both teams immediately recognized the severity of the situation, as Wolford lay motionless on the field for several minutes.
By the time the Buccaneers' medical staff had assessed the situation, players from both teams had gathered on one knee around Wolford in a demonstration of support.
Wolford was carted off the field in a stretcher and a neck brace a short time later.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers provided an update less than 20 minutes after Wolford went down. According to the team, Wolford has movement in all of his extremities and is being taken to a local New York hospital for precautionary reasons.
Wolford, 27, is entering his sixth season in the NFL. He signed with the Buccaneers as a free agent earlier this offseason, and although he is not expected to be on the field this regular season (barring injury), he has received praise from the Buccaneers' coaches for his intelligence, discipline, and the leadership qualities he brings to the quarterback room.
We will continue to monitor Wolford's status as details emerge.
