Former Buccaneers' Star Rob Gronkowski Names NFL Team He'd Unretire to Play With

A retired Buccaneers' tight end hints at a potential return to the NFL but with what team?
In this story:

Former Buccaneers' tight end Rob Gronkowski has now been retired since the end of the 2021 season, but he hinted that he would consider a return with the New York Giants.

Gronkowski told Kay Adams in a recent interview that if he were to consider a return to the league it would be with the New York Giants under their Head Coach Brian Daboll.

Daboll was the New England Patriots tight end coach from 2013-2016 under when he coached Gronkowski.

In the 2014 season, Gronkowski won comeback player of the year and was selected to first-team all-pro in 2014 and 2015. He also finished with 1,100+ yards and 10+ touchdowns in both of those seasons.

Gronkowski says, "Brian Daboll wants me on his roster... He would have the best chance to get me out of retirement."

This seems like more of a nod to his former position coach rather than a sincere chance that he would return. However, Gronkowski has retired once already and missed a full year before returning to the league with the Buccaneers.

In his two seasons with the Buccaneers, he played in back-to-back Super Bowls winning the first and losing the second game.

When Gronkowski announced his second retirement after the 2021 season he said the following:

"I will now be going back into my retirement home, walking away from football again with my head held high knowing I gave it everything I had, good or bad, every time I stepped out on the field."
