Bucs Wide Receiver Is Dealing With Another Injury According to Baker Mayfield
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers began OTAs earlier this week and that provided an opportunity to get a first look at the team's new faces in actions. Obviously, a lot of eyes were on veteran quarterback Baker Mayfield as he competes with Kyle Trask and John Wolford for the starting job.

Following the session, Mayfield spoke with the media about hitting the field for the first time with the Buccaneers. During the conversation, he revealed that veteran wide receiver Russell Gage recently suffered an injury while discussing the pieces on offense.
"Honestly, I'm truly impressed. Obviously, we've got two great veterans. Russ [Gage Jr.] had a little bit of an injury last week, but he was doing really well before that," Mayfield said on Tuesday. "We've got a ton of speed, a lot of young speed. I'm just trying to get these guys to find their roles and find their place in this system. We talk about the speed that we have, our tight ends can roll, as well. We're excited about what we can be with all of the weapons that we have."
That's disappointing news, especially after Gage wasn't spotted during the first round of OTAs. It's worth noting that a bunch of other veterans didn't participate on Tuesday and there hasn't been an official update from the team on his status.
Gage is coming off a season where he was plagued by injuries during his transition to Tampa Bay. He was on Injured Reserve for five weeks during the regular-season while managing a hamstring injury. Gage injured his back in the finale against his former team, the Atlanta Falcons.
He returned for the Buccaneers' NFC Wild Card matchup against the Dallas Cowboys and went down once again. Gage was carted off and hospitalized after suffering a concussion and neck injury during the fourth quarter of the loss that ended the team's season.
Tampa Bay is expecting a resurgence out of Gage this upcoming season after he only recorded 51 catches for 426 yards and five touchdowns in 2022. His performance alongside Mike Evans and Chris Godwin will be crucial for the quarterback who ends up winning the starting job.
