New Rule 'Complicates' Tom Brady's Raiders Ownership Status

Could the former Tampa Bay Buccaneer quarterback's desire to join the Las Vegas Raider ownership fall apart?

Since retiring, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady has turned his focus to business while remaining around football. It was reported that Brady was joining the Las Vegas Raiders' ownership with a minority stake.

However, Brady may be running into a roadblock in his journey to become a minority owner of the NFL franchise.

Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reported the Raiders' desire to employ Brady after he became a minority owner, and how that may cause issues in the partnership under a new NFL rule. Ben Fischer of Sports Business Journal reported the rule states that employees or family members of employees are unable to own equity in the franchise.

"During last week's special meeting to approve the sale of the Commanders from Daniel Snyder to Josh Harris, Raiders owner Mark Davis spoke passionately against the proposed rule, explaining that he had planned to employ Brady as part of the deal for Brady to buy a piece of the team," Florio wrote.

Davis' desire to employ Brady may halt progress on the agreement, and there is a question as to whether the two sides even partner in this situation anymore.

This isn't the legendary quarterback's first opportunity to obtain ownership in a Las Vegas-based professional sports franchise. Brady purchased an ownership stake in the Las Vegas Aces, which recently won the WNBA Commissioner's Cup and WNBA Championship.

It's clear that Brady supports the Las Vegas sports market, so it's hard to imagine he doesn't find some route to purchase some ownership stake in the Raiders.

No matter what, Brady will stay around football. He's joining FOX in the broadcast booth in 2024, which gives him a one-season break from the game. Without playing, Brady will be able to allow his football knowledge to be put to use and impact the everyday watcher's experience plenty.
