Buccaneers Rachaad White Speaks on Saquon Barkley, Declining Running Back Market
One of the hottest NFL news topics has been running backs as of late. The position is being depreciated when it comes to their value to winning. However, the top running backs in the league are pushing back and have been meeting to find a solution.
New York Giants star Saquon Barkley and Las Vegas Raiders standout Josh Jacobs are two rostered running backs that are finding issues in the market. Free agent Dalvin Cook hasn't been able to find a home quite yet, despite making the Pro Bowl team four times in a row.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Rachaad White commented on this matter and is aware of the current situation.

“I’ve got a lot to go out there and prove, so it doesn’t really affect me,” White said. “I feel bad and feel sorry for Saquon [Barkley], things like that. I always felt that the best players on whatever team should be paid, and he’s one of the best players in the league, so of course.”
While this doesn't directly impact White yet, he's going to get great opportunities this season to prove himself. If he does so, he'll then have to deal with the declining market for running backs in the league.
“I can sympathize with them,” White said. “If you go out there and put some years together, will you get paid? But at the end of the day, as I see Saquon [Barkley] take that deal, that’s how I am. You see he loves football, he wants to play, and that’s a great thing to have.”
A general rule of thumb in sports is that the biggest contributors are paid the most on their teams. Barkley essentially carried the Giants to end their playoff drought. They don't make the playoffs without him, and he should be valued that way.
“Certain things, I understand,” White said. “But for me, I’m simple. It’s like, ‘Is that guy one of the best players on the team, is he a best player in this league?’ And if he is, I just think, regardless, that he should get paid.”
