Jalen Carter Responds to Issued Arrest Warrants
INDIANAPOLIS -- Earlier this morning, the football world went into shock here at the NFL Combine.
Georgia DL Jalen Carter was scheduled to speak with reporters at 10:30 local time. Nearly 20 minutes before, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported a warrant was out for his arrest back in Georgia.
“At first, Jalen Carter told police he was nearly a mile away when a UGA teammate and a football staff member died in a car crash. Now, his presence at the scene on Jan. 15 and his shifting accounts alter the police narrative that it was a single-car crash,” said AJC in a tweet.
Carter - with two misdemeanor charges against him - didn't speak and was not spotted with his DL group this morning, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport.
Carter recently posted his own statement on Twitter, which reads:
"THIS MORNING I RECEIVED A TELEPHONE CALL FROM THE ATHENS GEORGIA POLICE DEPARTMENT INFORMING ME THAT TWO MISDEMEANOR WARRANTS HAVE BEEN ISSUED AGAINST ME FOR RECKLESS DRIVING AND RACING. NUMEROUS MEDIA REPORTS ALSO HAVE CIRCULATED THIS MORNING CONTAINING INACCURATE INFORMATION CONCERNING THE TRAGIC EVENTS OF JANUARY 15, 2023. IT IS MY INTENTION TO RETURN TO ATHENS TO ANSWER THE MISDEMEANOR CHARGES AGAINST ME AND TO MAKE CERTAIN THAT THE COMPLETE AND ACCURATE TRUTH IS PRESENTED. THERE IS NO QUESTION IN MY MIND THAT WHEN ALL OF THE FACTS ARE KNOWN THAT I WILL BE FULLY EXONERATED OF ANY CRIMINAL WRONGDOING."
