Kyler Murray Ranked as Second Best NFC Quarterback

Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray sits only behind Jalen Hurts in the NFC, according to Pro Football Focus.

Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray has quite the road ahead of him after tearing his ACL/meniscus late in the 2022 season.

Though the Cardinals are entering a rebuild, his health going into 2023 and beyond will be the largest building block in ensuring Arizona is able to successfully turn themselves around.

We've seen just how dynamic Murray can be - so did the Cardinals, that's why they paid him. Eventually he'll return to full health and Arizona will again have their franchise quarterback in the fold.

Where does he rank in a conference with some extremely talented passers?

After ranking Jalen Hurts as the lone elite quarterback in the NFC, Murray fell first in the second followed by Matthew Stafford, Kirk Cousins and Dak Prescott in Pro Football Focus' rankings:

Kyler Murray Ranks in Second Tier of NFC Quarterbacks

"After Hurts, the NFC quarterback landscape nosedives. From that point, the guaranteed elite is already exhausted, leaving a group of good quarterbacks capable of runs of elite play but probably not entire seasons instead," said Sam Monson.

"Stafford showed most recently that combination can be enough to take home a Super Bowl ring, especially in the NFC where the postseason run is likely weaker, but it’s far less reliable as predicting the run of elite play isn’t easy.

"Cousins, Murray and Prescott have each had stretches of elite play, but it rarely transformed the team into a true contender at the sharp end of the season. Timing that run for the most important games of the season is the alchemy achieved by the likes of Joe Flacco, Eli Manning and Stafford.

"The only one from this group who looks to be entering the 2023 NFL season with a team around them that could capitalize on their run of elite play if it manifests itself is Prescott with the Dallas Cowboys."

The next tier included quarterbacks Daniel Jones, Geno Smith, Jared Goff and Derek Carr in the "needs a super team supporting cast" category.
