Cardinals QB Colt McCoy Thrilled for Joe Thomas' Hall of Fame Moment

Arizona Cardinals QB Colt McCoy won't be able to be in Canton for the special day, but he did share some nice words on former Cleveland Browns teammate Joe Thomas.

NFL football is (somewhat) returning this Thursday when the Cleveland Browns battle the New York Jets to officially get the 2023 preseason underway in the Pro Football Hall of Fame game.

Two days later, the Class of 2023 will officially be enshrined into the immortal hallways of Canton, OH on Saturday, Aug. 5.

One of the nine selected players is former Cleveland Browns tackle Joe Thomas, who anchored the left side of Cleveland's offensive line for over a decade and accumulated a total of ten Pro Bowls and eight All-Pro nods, six of which came on the first team.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Colt McCoy - who played with Thomas after being drafted to Cleveland from 2010-12, was asked how special it is to see his former teammate achieve the highest honor known in the football world:

"I'll tell you what - Joe is one of my dearest friends, we talk almost on a daily basis. Our families are really close and my wife is gonna go to the Hall of Fame induction. I won't be able to go, obviously. There's not a guy that's more deserving than him. I got to play with him for three years, his body of work speaks for itself," McCoy said.

"But more than that, he's a friend and I love his family. I love his wife. They're awesome people. I'm just really, really excited for him. That's an extremely special honor, right? I don't know that anybody comes into the NFL saying like, 'my goal is to make the Hall of Fame' right? I know that certainly wasn't Joe's goal, but his body of work and how he approached his day to day and the things that he accomplished on the field in Cleveland, it's pretty amazing and he's receiving the highest honor which is extremely cool."

McCoy will be participating in Arizona's Red/White scrimmage on Saturday. While quarterback Kyler Murray continues to rehab his ACL injury, McCoy is expected to be the starter during his absence.

The Cardinals will play their first preseason game against the Denver Broncos on Friday, Aug. 11.
