Zach Allen Sends Thank You Message to Cardinals, Fans
The Arizona Cardinals were never going to make a huge splash in free agency, though there was hope they would be able to retain either one of their two largest free agents in CB Byron Murphy or DE Zach Allen.
Neither happened.
Murphy followed in the footsteps of former Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson by joining the Minnesota Vikings while Allen joined former defensive coordinator Vance Joseph and the Denver Broncos.
Allen's deal particularly was strong (three-year. $45.75 million with $32.5 million guaranteed), and some feel as if the Cardinals were never going to have the desire to match that.
Whether Arizona simply didn't match the offer or Allen wanted a fresh start, the reality is he's no longer playing for the Cardinals.
Allen said goodbye to Arizona in a thank you message on Twitter that read:
"I've loved the last four years in Arizona and want to thank the Bidwill family and entire Cardinals organization including the coaches, staff and my teammates. Most of all thank you to the Cardinals fans. You always supported me and that is something I will never forget. Arizona will always be a special place for me and my family.
Former Cardinals teammate J.J. Watt was happy to see his young apprentice get the bag.
Losing Watt to retirement and Allen to free agency is quite a blow to Arizona's front seven. We'll see if free agency or the 2023 NFL Draft can help fill either of those holes.
