DeAndre Hopkins' Status Still Uncertain With Cardinals
INDIANAPOLIS -- Arizona Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort was able to speak with reporters at the 2023 NFL Combine and touched on a variety of topics during his 15 minutes at the podium.
One of the earlier questions was posed on receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who was reportedly put on the trade block earlier in the offseason.
Whether the Cardinals believe they can quickly turn their fortunes around and compete quickly will determine if Hopkins will be on the roster. Hopkins also may not want to stick around in an attempt to play elsewhere and possibly pursue a Super Bowl.
The situation hasn't gained much clarity over the last few weeks, and Ossenfort's comments on the situation remained very neutral.
"I've had a conversation with DeAndre [Hopkins] and DeAndre's representative. Those have been very productive conversations," said Ossenfort.
"I've watched from afar the last 10 years or whatever it's been with DeAndre and have had been on teams that haven't had to compete against him. I've seen the player that DeAndre is and what he can do on the field and I know he's tough to defend. And so you know, I'm glad that he's on the team.
"I think with with him or as it goes to any player, those are situations that we'll address as they come up, but I'm glad DeAndre is on the team right now and I'm happy to be on the same team with him."
Hopkins is set to have a $30.75 million cap hit next season at 30-years old, trailing only Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill in that aspect.
With the Cardinals likely wanting immediate draft compensation in the event that he is traded, Arizona will have to come to a decision soon on Hopkins' future in the desert.
