Insider Calls Cardinals Trading Down in NFL Draft 'No-Brainer'
We're now under a week until the 2023 NFL Draft is here, and the Arizona Cardinals currently possess the No. 3 overall pick.
Key word: Currently.
The Cardinals are highly favored to trade down in the first round in order to capitalize on the potential run of quarterbacks that is projected to happen in the top part of the order. Sources told All Cardinals earlier this month it was a matter of where the team moved down to - not if they were.
It's a move that makes too much sense, especially with the Cardinals more than likely not being competitive in 2023.
NFL insider Daniel Jeremiah agrees. He jumped on a conference call with reporters to preview the draft and gave his opinion on what the Cardinals should do when they're on the clock:
"I would think it's a no-brainer that they would to do it. The question is whether there's a market for it. It's got to be a two-way street. I think they would love to get out. I don't want to be overly harsh, but in my opinion I think they have the worst roster in the league right now," Jeremiah said.
"I think it makes a lot of sense for them to try and get as many assets as possible this year and next year, just accumulate as many picks as you possibly can. That makes all the sense in the world for them. It just comes to whether or not there's a market.
"I would say the same thing about the Cardinals that I said about the Bears. If they have an opportunity to move back, don't get hung up on I can only go back one spot or two spots or three spots. I don't want to be out of range of a particular player. You are a lot more than a particular player away from being a good team, so get back as far as you can, get as much as you can. Again, I would be adding pieces in next year's draft as well as this year's draft if you could."
