Report: Cardinals Could Trade With Seahawks in NFL Draft

Speculation around the league says the Seattle Seahawks could be the team that trades with the Arizona Cardinals in the top part of the 2023 NFL Draft.

We're officially in the month of the 2023 NFL Draft, and the Arizona Cardinals have a very big decision to make with the No. 3 pick. 

Due to a variety of factors ranging from Kyler Murray's health to the overall state of the roster, 2023 is viewed by many to be the first year of a rebuild with a new coaching staff and front office at the helm. 

Sitting at the top of the draft order with a handful of quarterbacks (with teams looking to snag their next franchise passer), the Cardinals are heavily favored to collect some serious draft capital and move down. Trading back would afford Arizona more draft picks for either this year/next year - which in turn gives them more opportunity to fill holes across the roster. 

With Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud assumingly going 1-2 in some order, Anthony Richardson is believed to be the next quarterback for the taking. 

As far as trade partners go, there's a handful of teams that have been rumored to be interested. Franchises such as Indianapolis, Detroit, Las Vegas and Atlanta all pick in the top ten and are serious candidates to take a quarterback here in four weeks. 

However, a familiar face has apparently risen across the league as a team to watch for the No. 3 pick in the Seattle Seahawks. 

"Speculation from league insiders during Florida's pro day is the Seattle Seahawks could be the team that leapfrogs the Indianapolis Colts and trades up with the Arizona Cardinals to secure Richardson," said Pro Football Network's Tony Pauline. 

All Seahawks' Corbin Smith said Seattle brass has been doing some extra digging on Richardson. 

"We’re told Schneider spent extensive time with quarterback Anthony Richardson’s agent in Gainesville on Thursday, while Carroll held a private meeting with Florida coach Billy Napier to continue digging on the quarterback," Smith said. 

Though they just re-signed Geno Smith, in a perfect world the Seahawks would grab their next quarterback - sit them for a season or two behind Smith - then proceed forward. Richardson is widely viewed as an extremely talented passer, but more so of a project when compared to some of the other top options on the board. 

Seattle would be a strong fit for Richardson to sit, learn and refine his skills before touching an NFL field. 

But would Arizona want to hand their division rivals the potential of a franchise quarterback? 

On one side of the coin, the Cardinals are either contemplating taking a player such as Will Anderson Jr. or moving down. A potential move with Seattle would afford them an opportunity to accomplish both, of course pending what the Colts do at No. 4. 

On the other side, Arizona might not be keen with themselves if they allowed Richardson to land in Seattle and dominate the division for years to come. 

That's one of many decisions Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort has to weigh as the clock begins to tick on the draft. 

For now, there's plenty of smoke suggesting the two NFC West rivals could do business on draft night.
