Cardinals Keep Losing Assistant Coaches
The Arizona Cardinals have yet to find their new head coach, leaving some staff members in limbo until the new regime is implemented and decisions are made.
Most head coaches want to bring in their own staff they know and trust on a personal level, something that is fairly common when cleaning house.
Yet a few Cardinals assistant coaches have already taken it upon themselves to depart for other opportunities.
Earlier today, the Houston Texans brought on former Cardinals defensive line coach Matt Burke as their defensive coordinator under DeMeco Ryans. (Kliff Kingsbury is reportedly speaking with them about their vacant offensive coordinator spot, too).
The loss of Burke is a tough one, as he was viewed as one of the better coaches within the organization. Such is life in the NFL, where cream rises to the top and opportunities are awarded.
Nobody can blame Burke for departing, yet he's not the only loss suffered.
Arizona also lost their secondary coach in Greg Williams to the Green Bay Packers while the New Orleans Saints are expected to bring on defensive backs coach Marcus Robertson.
Tight ends coach Steve Heiden went to Detroit and OLB coach Charlie Bullen went to Illinois as well.
The losses lead many to believe that Vance Joseph won't be back as defensive coordinator next season.
The Cardinals will reportedly make a decision in the days after Super Bowl LVII, and a new staff will eventually be brought to help the Cardinals turn themselves around.
It looks like there might not be as many tough conversations with current coaches as initially thought for the new guy.
