Potential Cardinals Coaching Target Ejiro Evero Hired by Panthers
The Arizona Cardinals first interviewed Frank Reich for their opening that has yet to be filled on the same day that new general manager Monti Ossenfort was officially hired.
However, the Carolina Panthers made first waves in the coaching cycle by hiring Reich, an offensive-minded coach that previously won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles as their OC.
Reich, along with Dan Quinn, was considered one of the top coaches for the opening in Arizona. That option has been gone for weeks, and now Michael Bidwill can cross off another name from contention to replace Kliff Kingsbury.
The Panthers are hiring Ejiro Evero as their defensive coordinator, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero.
Evero previously won the Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams as their DB coach/passing game coordinator. He then took the job as Denver's defensive coordinator and worked wonders for a team that lost Bradley Chubb and suffered from poor offensive play through the season.
When Denver initially fired Nathaniel Hackett, they offered Evero the interim job but he turned it down. Evero interviewed with teams for their head coach openings (Carolina and Arizona) but ultimately was released from his contract with the Broncos to move elsewhere.
Evero was one of three names initially listed by NFL insider Ian Rapoport to potentially get a second interview with the Cardinals.
At this time, Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer reports the Cardinals have offered second interviews to Lou Anarumo and Mike Kafka.
