Report: Cardinals to Continue Talks With Jonathan Gannon
All eyes are on the Arizona Cardinals after the Indianapolis Colts hired Shane Steichen early Tuesday morning. The Cardinals - who are on Day 36 of their search for a head coach - are the lone team in the league without a man in charge.
Many thought a decision would come as soon as Monday night after waiting to interview Philadelphia Eagles DC Jonathan Gannon after Super Bowl LVII, yet NFL insider Mike Garafolo says Arizona will have more conversations with the defensive coordinator today before making a decision.
The Cardinals are looking to replace Kliff Kingsbury after his four years of service to the organization. After striking out on Sean Payton, Frank Reich, DeMeco Ryans and Dan Quinn early in the process, the Cardinals offered second-round interviews to Brian Flores, Lou Anarumo and Mike Kafka.
Flores fled to Minnesota before his next conversation with the team while Anarumo/Kafka completed theirs in the week leading up to the Super Bowl.
ESPN's Josh Weinfuss reported that the Cardinals narrowed their search down to Anarumo/Gannon, leaving Kafka out of the mix.
New Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort has reportedly held a great deal of interest in Gannon dating back to last summer (via Albert Breer), but the team had to wait to interview him after not initially speaking with him before the Wild Card Round.
Arizona hopes to make a decision soon. Their fans hope so, too.
