Chargers News: LA Leaning Towards Drafting a WR in Round 1
As the NFL Draft approaches, Charger fans are starting to get a sense of who they'll draft on day one. We've heard many directions the Bolts might go, but traction is gaining on a pass catcher for LA.
A running back might be priority number one if they lose star RB Austin Ekeler; however, another deep weapon for Justin Herbert could be the best for the team in the first round. ESPN NFL insider Jordan Reid says the team is 'adamant' for a wide receiver on day one.
What we're hearing about the Chargers' draft: Sources close to the Chargers have been adamant about the team targeting a pass-catcher in the early rounds. With Keenan Allen and Mike Williams both battling durability issues, quarterback Justin Herbert is in dire need of another playmaker. What is L.A. looking for? Speed on the perimeter. Jordan Addison (USC) is a name to watch. Chris Beatty, the Chargers' wide receivers coach who has been with the team since 2021, recruited and coached Addison at Pitt. -- Reid
Keenan Allen and Mike Williams are up there in age and have a ton of wear and tear in their time in the league. A young, speedy wide receiver is what the Bolts need. Luckily for the Bolts, they'll have many options outside of Jordan Addison. Addison has had a fantastic colligate career, but if they miss on him,' there are other terrific choices.
Boston College wide receiver Zay Flowers is on the Bolt's radar. He's a speedy receiver that would be great for Herbert on long, explosive plays.
A tight end could also be used with that pick; however, LA seems to lean toward a big-play type player, and either Addison or Flowers could be used.
