Chargers News: Bolts HC Sees Why LA Went After New Offensive Coordinator
The Los Angeles Chargers offense wasn't the same as we've seen over the past years under Justin Herbert's tenure. In Herbert's first year in 2020, the ball was moving everywhere, especially down the field; in 2022, that wasn't the case. The team wasn't using their weapons to the best of their ability, and by the team, I mean former offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi.
The playoff finish in 2022 was the nail in the coffin as the Chargers let go of Lombardi, and rightfully so. The team knew they needed to go in a different, more explosive direction, and they did just that by hiring former Dallas Cowboys OC Kellen Moore.
The addition of Moore could put the Chargers' offense over the top, and we've already seen flashes of that, including Chargers head coach Brandon Staley. Staley is already impressed with his new OC, as he loved what he saw from Moore on the last day of minicamp last week.
"I left the practice field of the last practice of minicamp saying that was the best throwing session that we've ever had since we've been here,"
Staley said,
per Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated. "I left the field saying, this is exactly why we hired Kellen."

It's no question that Moore is one of the most brilliant offensive minds in the league, and he's shown that in his time with the Cowboys. His ability to bolster the run game will be effective for the Bolts, as he coached the seventh-best rushing offense in his time as the Cowboys' OC. Not only was the run game effective, but his ability to balance the pass and the run will lead LA over the top.
Moore will be a game-changer, and Staley realizes that. Along with Staley's defensive mind and Moore's offensive mind, the sky is the limit for the Bolts this season.
We'll see how it translates to the gridiron.
