Chargers News: Keenan Allen Discusses Adjusted Role Under New Offensive Coordinator
Following a year of dysfunction within the offense due to former offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, at least one Charger is expressing his excitement for a change of game planning.
Discussing his current role with new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore's system, Bolts veteran wideout Keenan Allen had much to say about his new versatility within the offense.
After an injury plagued 2022 that bucked the trend of multiple healthy seasons for Los Angeles, Allen wants to take advantage of his new opportunity in a fresh new offense.
Allen isn't the only one looking to improve on a lackluster season as Moore's system stands to benefit quarterback Justin Herbert on both the field and for fantasy teams everywhere.
Emphasizing a want to throw the ball deep as he had in his previous location with the Dallas Cowboys, Moore is hoping to reignite a Bolts offense that surprisingly went cold in the second half of their playoff loss to the Jaguars in January.
With weapons like running back Austin Ekeler, Allen, fellow receivers in Mike Williams and newly drafted Quentin Johnson, many fans wondered why Los Angeles failed to launch so often last year.
Such a trend shouldn't be the norm with Allen now moving back to an alternating role of both inside and outside routes to give defenses some different looks.
Of course it won't be all of one or the other like it might have been in years past, especially considering the talent at the disposal of Herbert and company.
Given Johnston's impressions during camp, Allen might not have to shoulder nearly as heavy a burden as he had in previous seasons.
Hopefully with a new season of health and talent around him, Allen can return to his previous Pro Bowl that fans at SoFi have grown accustomed to seeing from him.
