Chargers News: Keenan Allen's Leadership Philosophy & Uniting The Receiver Group

The veteran wideout will need to lead this unit of youngsters.

The Chargers wideout room took a huge hit this week when it was announced that star wide receiver Mike Williams tore his ACL and is done for the year.

This injury occurred against the Minnesota Vikings when the 28-year-old Williams had seven catches for 121 yards and a touchdown.

Keenan Allen now must lead more than ever with a young wide receiver room with Joshua Palmer and Quentin Johnston.

"I take a lot of pride [in being a leader]," Allen said. "I looked up to the guys who were here before me."

Allen leads on and off the field, and when he is on the field, he leads by example.

Racking up 18 catches against the Vikings for 215 yards followed his Week 2 performance against the Tennesse Titans, where he put up 111 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Now, the 31-year-old Allen will have to lead these young wideouts and keep the Chargers on the path to success.

"It's very important [to have a close group]," Allen said. "It helps you be selfless out there. We all are doing this for one main goal. Anytime the guys make a play, you get happy for them."

Quentin Johnston was the first-round pick this year for the Chargers, and the team drafted him with high hopes coming out of TCU.

The young wideout worked on building chemistry with Justin Herbert over the offseason to help progress him well when his time came.

The 22-year-old rookie will be thrust into the starting position along with third-year wideout Joshua Palmer to help fill the void that Mike Williams leaves behind.

The Chargers will face off against the Las Vegas Raiders this week, and Keenan Allen will look to lead these young weapons and keep this potent passing game firing at all cylinders.
