Chargers News: LA Verifies Interview With Perennial Contender's DC
Your Los Angeles Chargers have confirmed rampant sourced rumors that longtime former Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier would interview with LA for its head coaching vacancy, per Omar Navarro of Chargers.com.
LA also verified today that they have interviewed the Bills' current defensive coordinator, Mike Macdonald, for the gig.
Frazier, once a cornerback on the '85 Bears, served as Buffalo's DC from 2017-22, and was the club's assistant head coach from 2020-22. He's currently an analyst on the NFL Network.
While he was with the Bills, Frazier proved imperative to turning around his club's defense. The Bills finished among the NFL's top 10 in points allowed four times during his five-year run.
Navarro notes that Frazier does have some prior head coaching experience on his resume, having served in that capacity with the Minnesota Vikings.
He was initially promoted to the role in an interim capacity in 2010 when Minnesota canned Brad Childress midseason. Frazier stuck around, and although the 2011 season didn't turn out so hot (they finished at 3-13), the club went 10-6 the next year and made a playoff berth, losing to the Aaron Rodgers-era Green Bay Packers 24-10 in the 2012 NFC Wild Card Game. He himself was let go in 2013. Cumulatively, his regular season head coaching record is 21-32-1.
