Chargers News: Insider Unpacks Coaching Gaffes Of Titans Embarrassment
Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley has received a ton of criticism throughout his first few seasons as the leader of the Bolts. Some of it has been justified, and some hasn't been.
Staley was hired for his strong defensive knowledge, but since taking over, the Chargers defense has remained an issue. But it is starting to seem that Staley may not be the right man for the job.
After LA collapsed in the postseason last year, many were calling for his job. But the front office decided to give him another chance, and through two games, the Chargers find themselves in an 0-2 hole.
It isn’t all on Staley, but as the head coach, he will take the brunt of the blame. And some decisions he has made have been questionable at best to start the new year.
“And Sunday’s loss, which featured several strategic gaffes by the third-year coach, will surely raise the temperature of his seat. Staley punted on fourth-and-short near midfield on two occasions when the numbers suggested the Chargers should’ve kept their offense on the field. And that’s just the latest proof that Staley’s commitment to analytically backed decision-making has been weakened.”

At times, it seems that he is scared to make the wrong move. It is something that could be a lingering effect of the playoff collapse, but he has pushed back against that.
“In his press conference, he pushed back against the notion that blowing a 27-point lead to Jacksonville in the playoffs last season is hanging over the locker room, but it certainly still seems to be in the back of his mind. Staley is coaching not to lose.”

Staley was such an aggressive coach when he first started out. But now he looks in over his head. It’s not a great look for a coach that is on the hot seat, and for a team that should be having Super Bowl aspirations.
“Three personal foul penalties extended eventual scoring drives for Tennessee, and a bad challenge of a first-down spot cost the Chargers a timeout in the second half. In year three, Staley is regressing as a head coach”

As the year goes on, Staley will need to put his team into better situation to succeed. His standing as the Chargers head coach depends on the team turning things around, otherwise, he will likely be looking for a new job next season.
