Latest on Jim Harbaugh to the Chargers
There have been many reports today about where the Los Angeles Chargers are at in terms of hiring Jim Harbaugh. We reported he was meeting with the team yesterday for a second interview, which for sure happened.
However, it appeared that Harbaugh never left LA, and talks with both sides poured into today. Today there have been a handful of reports regarding where Harbaugh is, with some even claiming that he was back in Ann Arbor to sign with Michigan.
The above report indicated that Harbaugh left LA with the intention of fielding a more lucrative deal with Michigan.
The reports of Harbaugh on the move were brought on by the news that Harbaugh would still be meeting with the Atlanta Falcons for a second interview.
Initially, Harbaugh was slated to meet with Atlanta today, but that interview was moved to Thursday. It could be an indication that the Chargers were losing their grip on landing Harbaugh, but many reputable sources have indicated that Harbaugh is still in LA.
While these reports are a couple of hours old, the consensus is that Harbaugh is still in LA. It could be that the Chargers and Harbaugh are working together on the finer details of his contract and his staffing needs.
We also reported that the Chargers were meeting with New York Giants assistant GM Brandon Brown today for a second time regarding their vacant general manager opening.
It could be that Brown and Harbaugh are also getting acquainted and discussing power dynamics for the future of the organization.
We also reported on the rumor that Harbaugh would bring over Michigan DC Jesse Minter and his son Jay to join him in LA.
It sounds like the Chargers and Harbaugh are waiting for the perfect storm for the announcement of his hiring. From what we know, he is still in LA, despite a deal not being in place.
Perennial NFL analyst Ian Rapoport indicated that Harbaugh is still in talks with the Chargers, but should a deal not get done today—he will be traveling to meet with the Falcons tomorrow.
The Chargers would be smart to not allow Harbaugh out of the building without a deal set in place.
