There has been a lot of mixed feelings surrounding LA's final selections in the 2023 draft haul but do not let any mediocre draft grade fool you. The Chargers came away with some elite prospects that will elevate their play on both side of the ball and that already have chemistry thanks to most having played together at TCU.

Now a TE certainly would have been nice considering it would have made LA that much deeper but GM Tom Telesco has already made it clear that he believes in Gerald Everett after he posted his best season yet in 2022 with the Bolts. Beyond him, they also just gifted Donald Parham a brand new contract.

But nonetheless, many Chargers experts and analysts are disappointed with the overall haul due to the lack of them bringing in a solid, young TE. It definitely is easier to focus on the negative and once Bijan Robinson's name was called to be sent to the Atlanta Falcons, some fans just were never going to be pleased.

However, Tom Telesco has spoken out again on exactly what the Chargers were thinking as the six rounds of the 2023 NFL Draft went down and finally revealed why they didn't walk away with a new TE.

"I thought Buffalo was going to trade up for a WR," said Telesco. "That's the way it goes sometimes. With Dawson Knox, I didn't know they would take a TE. All the work that we do, it's just like you guys trying to predict what will happen. We went into the draft with a pretty broad face-look at it as far as what we would add to our football team, both long-term and short-term. It was a pretty good TE class, nothing really presented to us. It's not like we went into the draft saying 'We need to draft a tight end."

There you have it folks, Telesco and the rest of the Chargers' front office took the best options that were available for them and it just so happened that a TE was not included.
