Raiders QB Jimmy Garoppolo Injury Concerns Raised; Commanders Ex Carson Wentz to Sign?
The Las Vegas Raiders are making a big splash by signing Jimmy Garoppolo to quarterback the team, but there's a chance the organization may not even start him for a single game.
According to sources, Garoppolo underwent surgery for his foot and has yet to pass a physical with the Raiders. The Raiders included a clause in his contract called "Addendum G," which could affect Garoppolo's future with the team.
Per Pro Football Talk: "The contract preserves the team’s ability to terminate the agreement with no further obligation, “for any reason related to the Waiver and Release attached as Addendum G.”
If Garoppolo isn't healthy, it means that the Raiders could be in the market for a quarterback. Among the top free agents on the market is former Washington Commanders quarterback Carson Wentz.
Wentz underperformed while with the Commanders, throwing for just 1,755 yards, 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions in eight games with the team. The team ultimately decided to move forward with Sam Howell rather than try another year of the Wentz experiment.
Even though Wentz has been unsigned thus far, ESPN reports that he is working out and preparing for the season on his own.
"He’s been working out in L.A. in preparation for the season, he’s received interest from teams and he might wait longer into the offseason to see what develops. But he’s open to starter or backup roles," ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler tweeted.
If Garoppolo's injury situation continues to go south, signing Wentz could be an option for the Raiders.
