BREAKING: Commanders Draft Kentucky RB Chris Rodriguez Jr. in Sixth Round
The second-to-last pick of the Washington Commanders' 2023 NFL Draft is in.
With the No. 193 overall selection, the Commanders drafted Kentucky running back Chris Rodriguez Jr.
Per SI's Draft Bible, Rodriguez is a "bulldozing runner that churns out yardage in between the tackles" and graded out as a fourth-round selection, meaning Washington found strong value.
A two-time team captain and three-time All-SEC selection, the 5-11, 217-pound Rodriguez finished his Kentucky career with 3,644 rushing yards, third most in program history.
The 22-year-old Rodriguez was a three-star recruit out of Ola High School in McDonough, Ga., and spent five years at Kentucky, playing in 46 games. He departed Lexington with 32 rushing and 35 total touchdowns, good enough to rank second and fourth in school history, respectively.
Rodriguez recorded a school record 20 100-yard rushing games, proving his consistency, efficiency and ability to carry a heavy workload.
Rodriguez joins Mississippi State cornerback Emmanuel Forbes, Illinois defensive back Jartavius "Quan" Martin, Arkansas center Ricky Stromberg, Utah offensive lineman Braeden Daniels and Clemson defensive end KJ Henry as members of Washington's draft class.
After starting with back-to-back defensive backs, the Commanders have gone offense with three of their last four picks ... with one more still to go.
The Commanders are scheduled to be back on the clock in the seventh round at No. 223 overall.
