Commanders' Josh Harris Eager to 'Change Fan Experience'; D.C. Stadium Move?
FedEx Field has been the home for the Washington Commanders since 1997, but it hasn't come without its fair share of problems.
The stadium's shortcomings are something Josh Harris and his new ownership group are focusing on.
"We’ve got to change the fan experience," Harris said.
For years, the fan experience at FedEx Field has ranked towards the bottom of the league with problems that come with 25+ years of wear and tear of a stadium, but those can be mitigated. Harris shared his ultimate goal for what he envisions Commanders games to be like every fall under his watch.
"We're going to throw a party every other Sunday," Harris said. "And when you have guests in your house, you treat them well. You don't have couches that are broken. You don't have TVs that aren't working. So we’ve got to get after all that, and that's what we're focused on right now."
There have been rumors that Washington may look into relocating from Landover, Maryland back to Washington D.C., where the team played from 1937-96 ... and while Harris didn't allude to the idea of moving back into the city, it's possible that the idea remains a possibility.
"As far as the stadium experience – long run – we would love to have a stadium where the opposing players fear to come, and our fans love to come and our players love to come and feel welcomed," Harris said. "That's what I experienced at RFK. And whatever happens with the stadium, that's the kind of stadium experience I want to create.”
Harris grew up a fan of the team in Chevy Chase, and he hopes to bring some of that childhood magic to other young supporters of the franchise ... and that all starts with improving the stadium experience.
