Commanders head coach Dan Quinn compared his latest hire of Kliff Kingsbury to Kyle Shanahan.

Kliff Kingsbury is the offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders, and head coach Dan Quinn couldn’t be happier.

In Kingsbury’s introductory press conference, Quinn was glowing when speaking about the team’s newest hire, even comparing him to Super Bowl head coach Kyle Shanahan of the San Francisco 49ers

“Kliff has always been somebody that I've kept up with, Quinn said. “We're really pumped that he's going to be a part of [the team].”

During his college coaching days, Quinn went against Kingsbury and said he respected him as a competitor.

“In the same way of why I wanted to hire Kyle [Shanahan] years ago like he was hard to go against,” Quinn said. “So, as a coach, you were writing down some names if this is something in your future that said, if I get that shot, this is somebody I would want to talk to.”

If Quinn and Kingsbury prove to be as formidable a duo with the Commanders as he and Shanahan were with the Atlanta Falcons when the team went to the Super Bowl, then this is truly a home run hire.

Kingsbury has a proven track record with quarterbacks, having coached both Patrick Mahomes and Baker Mayfield in college before becoming the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals and helping Kyler Murray transition into the NFL.

Although Kingsbury has a known track record of working with successful quarterbacks, Quinn clarified that he’s capable of finding success with more than just signal callers.

“People talk about his acumen with quarterbacks, and that's proven, but he's also an excellent coach,” Quinn said. “He's not just a guy that's going to be with the quarterbacks the whole time.”

Now all Washington has to figure out is who the signal caller of the future is so that Kingsbury can attempt to revitalize the whole offense, whether it be with a rookie or incumbent quarterback Sam Howell.
