For all of the change that's recently transpired among the Washington Commanders, a return to a familiar place may be in the works.

According to Front Office Sports, a return to Robert F. Kennedy Stadium could potentially be in the works. RFK Stadium was the home of the Washington Commanders from 1961 to 1996 before they moved to their current home, FedEx Field in 1997 in Landover, Maryland.

“The league and Mayor Bowser agree that Washington, D.C., should be at the table when a new site is considered,” an NFL spokesperson said. “We will continue to work with the mayor’s office, the Commanders, and Congress to that end — just like we are in contact with local officials in Maryland and Virginia as they review site and stadium options.”

The stadium was seemingly going to get demolished on numerous occasions but has managed to survive.

Any potential move by the Commanders is complicated by the impending decision from Dan Snyder to sell the team. Snyder reportedly wants at least $6 billion to sell Washington but has yet to receive an offer that meets the number. Even if Snyder doesn’t sell the team, there’s still the potential that other NFL owners could vote him out.

A move back to D.C., where RFK stadium is located could also boost fan attendance for a franchise that was last in 2022 and second to last in 2021.
