Commanders' Terry McLaurin 'Pissed' at Training Camp: 'Help Your Teammate!'
Tensions are rising as the first week of Washington Commanders training camp comes to an end.
In a play during Friday's practice, third-year cornerback Benjamin St-Juste broke up a pass intended for second-year tight end Cole Turner.
Turner fell down on the play while St-Juste celebrated another strong defensive stop. St-Juste failed to help Turner get back up on the play, angering fifth-year wideout Terry McLaurin.
"Help your teammate!" McLaurin exclaimed after the play, expressing frustration.
The play was the highlight of a rather disappointing day from the offense, which struggled to get much going against a talented defensive unit.
"Someone on offense was bound to get salty," NBC Sports reporter Pete Hailey tweeted. "The defense has been dominating camp and getting increasingly vocal about it. Not surprised Terry was the one to do so."
McLaurin, 27, has emerged as one of the leaders for the Commanders. He's caught for at least 900 yards in each of his first four seasons and has hit the 1,000-yard mark in each of his last three.
Commanders coach Ron Rivera praised McLaurin for his leadership last month while speaking with the media.
"They are prime examples of the foundation we are trying to build here with this football team. Tough physical players have bought into our culture, and they lead by example," Rivera said of McLaurin and defensive lineman Jonathan Allen.
McLaurin is establishing a culture where teammates look after one another, and those traits are going to be important as the Commanders try to navigate through the season.
