Commanders UDFA WR Kazmeir Allen 'Has Gotten Our Attention,' Says Ron Rivera

Kazmeir Allen did it all at UCLA, and now he's looking to do the same with the Washington Commanders.
In this story:

The Washington Commanders have one of the deepest wide receiver corps in the league.

Terry McLaurin is one of the best receivers in the league and the team spent big money to sign Curtis Samuel as a complementary piece and used a first-round pick to draft Jahan Dotson in 2022. On top of that, the team has Dyami Brown, a 2021 third-round pick who played with new quarterback Sam Howell in college at North Carolina. However, there's another player in the receiver room looking to make the team that's raised some eyebrows at OTA's.

Enter UCLA's Kazmeir Allen, who has potential to be one of the most versatile players in Washington's offense.

"He played some slot for them, some wide receiver for them, some running back for them and then he returned both kickoffs and punts for them, and he did 'em in the bowl game in the All-Star games as well," head coach Ron Rivera said. "So he's a young man that most certainly has gotten our attention and he's a young guy that we went out and tried to make sure we were able to recruit and bring him in as a free agent.”

Allen played 36 games across five seasons at UCLA, but saw an increased role in his last two years. He recorded 49 catches for 403 yards and a pair of scores through the air, while rushing for 203 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. He also averaged 27 yards per punt return in his last two seasons with the Bruins.

For undrafted free agents, versatility is a great way to make a team. There can never be too many players who can contribute on special teams, and Allen hopes his ability to do it all will help land him a spot on the Commanders' 53-man roster.
