Cowboys Trade Rumor on Bijan Robinson; QB Dak Prescott Reveals 'Feeling' on Ezekiel Elliott
The Dallas Cowboys decided to "rip off the Band-aid'' regarding running back Ezekiel Elliott, designating him to be a post-June 1 cut, Elliott is now free to look for work elsewhere. And even as the running back rumor mill grinds on - Bijan Robinson, anybody? - the move to cut Zeke has stung Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.
"That doesn't still feel right going into the facility and starting the offseason program," Prescott said on The Adam Schefter podcast.
Both were taken in the same draft and have "grown up" together in the NFL and have had their careers intertwined ever since. Prescott admits that not having his best friend around anymore is taking some getting used to.
Said Dak: "[He's] been my locker room buddy for years and just a guy I'll go to war with, and I'll do anything for in this world. It's tough not going to work with him now, but change is good as well, and I've got to embrace that and embrace what we've got moving forward, and I'm excited for it."
With Elliott no longer in Frisco, the Cowboys swiftly signed two-time Super Bowl champion Ronald Jones as Tony Pollard's backup. Add Rico Dowdle and Malik Davis; the running back room is rather crowded.
Since Elliott's release, a team has yet to be forthcoming with an offer, despite the reported links with several teams which likely has something to do with the upcoming NFL Draft. If a team can't fill a need, a call could be made to Elliott post-draft.
But what about a return to the Cowboys?
As unlikely as it seems, Prescott stated that players and staff inside The Star are hoping for a reunion.
"I know myself, and I can tell you there's a lot of people not only on the team but the organization that would love that," Prescott said. "We understand that this is a business and the market changes and things go up and down, so it doesn't always work out the way we see it, but hopefully, that could happen."
With Elliott still working out in Texas, there are rumors of a return to Dallas, but in reality, that ship likely sailed, particularly if we add in the Bijan Robinson rumors as well.
Click above to see how we've worked to slow the rumors by illustrating the high cost of a trade-up. But now along comes ESPN's Todd McShay saying he "wouldn't be surprised'' by such a move.
The Texas Longhorns standout in Dallas? Maybe, if he falls toward the Cowboys' No. 26 pick. That's a "fun'' idea moving forward, just as Zeke time with Cowboy Nation was "fun'' ... looking backward, a reality that even Prescott surely realizes.
