Healthy Obsession: Cowboys Record-Breaker CeeDee Lamb Reveals True Focus

Dallas Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb is focused on winning, not the potential to break Michael Irvin's record for receptions this week.

Dallas Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb has been the topic of discussion after his blistering start and then a no-show in the second and third quarters against the Miami Dolphins in a 22-20 loss.

After Lamb was on fire to start the game, the Dolphins had no answer for his talents as he hauled in three catches for 93 yards and a touchdown in the first quarter and a half before not being targeted until late in the fourth quarter.

Getting the catches and yards is all good and well, but for Lamb, he cares more about how the team performs than how he does ... although getting the ball in his hands tends to lead to good things for the Cowboys.

“I just know what I can contribute to the team and the type of player I am," Lamb said. "So just putting myself in the best position, help the team ... and I like to win overall.

"It's not really so much the stats ... I just like winning. Like, I really have an obsession with winning.”

Lamb

While Lamb says that he isn't focused on his stats, instead wanting team success, this week against the Detroit Lions, the rest of us might just have one eye on his stats.

Why, you say?

Lamb is close to breaking the Cowboys' record for most receptions in a season, as he is just three shy of breaking Michael Irvin's record of 111 receptions he totaled in the 1995 season. ... another great entry for the newest member of the Cowboys "88 Club.''

Could that happen against Detroit? Said Lamb: “Hope we win - then it means a lot more."

So, there is a fair chance that it happens against the Lions. Oh, and Lamb is in line for the receiving yards record as well, which is also held by Irvin (1,603 in 1995). CeeDee needs 180 yards to break that.

Lamb averages 94.9 yards a game and if he maintains that average, he will break both records in the same year, which would be quite the achievement.

Of course, all of that comes second to the 10-5 Cowboys stopping this two-game skid and taking care of the 12-4 Lions, while going undefeated at home for the season in the process. ...

With the cherry on top being Lamb breaking Irvin's record on the same night that Super Bowl-winning head coach Jimmy Johnson takes his place in the Cowboys' Ring of Honor.
