Dallas Cowboys Coach on Quarterback Dak Prescott: 'The 1 Thing I've Learned'

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott had a poor showing against the San Francisco 49ers before bouncing back against the Los Angeles Chargers, and quarterbacks coach Scott Tolzien has praised Dak's resilience.

One thing that most know about Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is he is as resilient as they come.

Being the Cowboys quarterback comes with a lot of media attention, both good and bad, which Dak has experienced throughout his time in the league. Additionally, Prescott's ability to rise above adversity has been a trademark of his since entering the league in 2016.

After a horror-show performance against the San Francisco 49ers, Dak went to work and came back the following week and put his team on his back. Our own Mike Fisher talks about great quarterbacks and how they "lift" their team when needed.

Prescott did that on Monday night, and his quarterback coach Scott Tolzien, praised Dak for his ability to respond to the 49ers loss in such a commanding way.

“It speaks to Dak’s resilience,” Tolzien said. “That’s one thing that I’ve learned about him in my four years here, you won’t find a more resilient dude in football and in life. That’s why we love him and that’s why we embrace him as our leader because of what he brings to the table. He’s the quarterback of the Cowboys, there’s a lot that comes with that, and no one handles it better than him.”

With the "Texas Coast Offense" being one of the bigger changes this offseason as coach Mike McCarthy took over the offensive play-calling duties, Prescott had a new person in his ear for the first time in three years.

Dak Prescott bounced back emphatically from the loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Along with that comes learning a new system and some of its verbiage. Naturally, there would be some bumps along the way, and we have seen those through the first six weeks.

But what about how Dak and Mike interact together in this new dynamic?

“From my perspective, it’s been pretty seamless,” Tolzien said. “It’s fun watching those guys interact and share their thoughts. I get to be the fly on the wall and be a middle man in between and put the ideas together. To me, there’s been a lot of familiarity with the new system but also the communication with coach [McCarthy] and Dak. It’s not their first rodeo together either, it's not totally new.”

The Cowboys are 4-2 as they enter their bye week after the 20-17 win over the Chargers, with Prescott garnering plaudits for his ability to steady the ship when things went wrong around him in L.A.

As he stated, 4-2 feels a whole lot better than 3-3, and with Dallas having a favorable schedule over the next month, the Cowboys can set themselves up nicely before the tough stretch begins.

But while Dak and the Cowboys are riding the high that accompanies a win, there will inevitably be a time when the chips are down, and that is when Prescott and his resilience - in the eyes of his coaches and teammates - will again come to the fore.
