'No Doubt!' Cowboys' Dak Prescott Readiness to Be Revealed at Giants
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Playing your most important players in meaningless preseason games is something that Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy hasn't done a whole lot of, and this offseason, Dak Prescott didn't feature at all.
While Dak went about his work during training camp and even on the headset vs. the Las Vegas Raiders in Dallas' final preseason game, now, on Sunday night, Prescott will be suiting up here at MetLife Stadium.
If there were any doubts whether Prescott was ready for the New York Giants, McCarthy squashed them.
“Definitely ready to start the season, no doubt,” McCarthy said. “He’s definitely taken advantage of the opportunity to learn, evaluate, the implementation of the things that are new. I’m really impressed with his offseason work preparing for this opportunity. Definitely, I would say he’s ready to go.”
Mastering McCarthy's new "Texas Coast Offense" was surely a big learning curve for Dak, despite most of the verbiage remaining the same. But there will no doubt be some different wrinkles put into the playbook, and that takes time to come to grips with.
But now, Dak's comfort level is at an "all-time high" in McCarthy's offense as Week 1 kickoff approaches.
Prescott - who is 10-2 lifetime vs. the Giants - will also have a new receiver weapon in Brandin Cooks, who was acquired via trade from the Houston Texans. Getting on the same page as his receivers is something that Dak worked on relentlessly this offseason, as we know the mistakes that haunted Dallas last season.
For McCarthy, the connection between quarterback and receiver is crucial, and he had nothing but glowing words for Cooks' impact on the locker room.
“No. 1, it’s a must,” McCarthy said on Prescott and Cooks’ development. “I don’t know if he [Prescott] could have done much more from internally and externally with the time that he’s spent in Georgia, the throwing sessions. Brandin has been a tremendous teammate, so impressed with him. Just the way he’s come in and not only connected with Dak, just the locker room as a whole. That’s been cool to watch.”
Many hope that chemistry will be on show against the Giants as Dallas looks to get the season off to a winning start.
Armed with the likes of CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup, Cooks, Tony Pollard, Jake Ferguson, Deuce Vaughn, Luke Schoonmaker, and Rico Dowdle, Dak has plenty of weapons to utilize.
But despite that, there have been some detractors regarding how the offense will look with Prescott leading it.
On Sunday night, we will see just how "comfortable" Dak is in "Big Mike's" offense and whether that translates to a Week 1 win over their division rivals.
McCarthy is prepared, Dak's ready, and quite frankly, so are we. Bring on the football.
