Dalton Schultz: Cowboys Make NO Offer, Dak Prescott Weapon to Sign with Chargers?

The Dallas Cowboys' departure of Dalton Schultz has long felt inevitable. And now the bids on Dak Prescott's security blanket are coming in.

Even though the Dallas Cowboys made a personnel splash on the first Tuesday of free agency, there will be one "sign our own'' that won't be signed back at The Star.

Having already lost receiver Noah Brown, Dallas is now to also lose primary tight end Dalton Schultz, as he is flirting with the Chargers (and their new coordinator, Kellen Moore.)

The 2023 departure has felt inevitable since Schultz played the prior year on the franchise tag - or at least since Tony Pollard got this year's tag.

Our Mike Fisher reported on Monday that contrary to national reports, the Cowboys did not even make Schultz an offer, let alone a supposedly "solid one.'' And Jane Slater of NFL Network is now echoing that sentiment.

"Dalton Schultz has not received any offer from the Dallas Cowboys," Slater said on Tuesday. "It's expected that he will likely find himself wearing another jersey next season."

The Cowboys like to bill themselves as a "draft and develop" team as they were pleased enough with the NFL entries of Jake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot that they're comfortable with Schultz leaving with nary a fight.

Also worth noting: this NFL Draft is deep when it comes to tight end.

Dallas currently owns the 26th overall pick in the coming draft that begins on April 27 in Kansas City. Dalton Kincaid of Utah and Notre Dame's Michael Mayer are expected to be the top selections at the position. ... and soon, in L.A. or elsewhere, Schultz is going to get top dollar at the position.
