Cowboys 'Worst-Case Scenario?' Jahmyr Gibbs Vs. Drew Sanders: NFL Draft
If the NFL Draft has proven anything in years past, it's that scouting and mock drafts only go so far.
Just ask a guy named Tom Brady, who after being selected as "Mr. Irrelevant," in 2000, went on to win seven Super Bowls, three MVP's and be named a 15-time Pro Bowler.
Or for a more recent example, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, 2022's "Mr Irrelevant," who beat out 2021 first-round pick Trey Lance for the starting job last season.
Bleacher Report recently came out with a "worst-case scenario” for the Dallas Cowboys heading into this month's draft.
First up, a prospect that Dallas met with last month and the No. 2 ranked running back in this years class - Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs.
"Gibbs is a 5-9, 199-pound back with home-run potential and burst combined with the hands and athleticism to be a weapon in the receiving game," Bleacher Report writes. "If that sounds familiar to Cowboys fans, it's because it's a lot of the same terminology you would use to describe Tony Pollard."
Another player Bleacher Report believes Dallas should avoid is Arkansas linebacker Drew Sanders, who has been linked to the Cowboys in several mock drafts - even being rated as the No. 1 player in his position.
"The problem is that Sanders so closely mirrors Parsons' skill set that it doesn't make actual sense for the team that has Parsons to draft him," Bleacher Report writes. "The first round is too early to take Sanders if he's just going to be an off-ball linebacker."
Our thoughts: A Pollard play-alike might be redundant. But a Micah play-alike? The Cowboys can find snaps for Sanders, who happens to be a Dallas native.
But for the Cowboys, a team that surprised many around the league by selecting offensive lineman Tyler Smith in the first-round last year, they're only concerned about one thing: Best player available.
