'I've Been Punched and Pushed!' Cowboys' McCarthy Reacts To Chiefs' Travis Kelce vs. Andy Reid Super Bowl Clash
Between his football escapades and relationship with music icon Taylor Swift, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce may have been the single most-talked-about player in the NFL this season.
The Chiefs' Super Bowl LVIII victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday only put more spotlight on Kelce (if that's even possible), but not without a bit of controversy along the way.
Following a Chiefs fumble early in the second quarter, cameras caught Kelce getting in the face of Kansas City coach Andy Reid, even bumping him at one point. The incident generated significant controversy over the following days, even after both Kelce and Reid said it was water under the bridge.
Some believed that Kelce crossed a line by getting physical with his coach, but most brushed it off after the Chiefs came back to win.
With the apparent altercation being such a hot topic across the NFL, it was only a matter of time before coaches and players from other teams would be asked about it. At an introductory press conference for new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy was asked which of his current players could get away with what Kelce did. In turn, McCarthy responded with a light-hearted joke of his own.
“I just think sometimes those guys forget how strong they are,” McCarthy said. “I’ve been punched. I’ve been pushed. I think it’s just part of that relationship.”

Players and coaches getting physical with each other is rare, but as McCarthy can attest to, it does happen occasionally. As long as there's still a mutual respect between both parties, though, it's very possible to put such an incident aside.
And indeed, Kelce has issued a public apology. And we hope whoever over the course of his career has "punched and pushed'' Mike McCarthy gave him a "sorry about that'' follow-up as well.
