Odell Beckham Jr. 'Positive Discussions' With Cowboys; Jerry Jones' Staff 'Debate' Signing

The Cowboys have been linked multiple times to the big names on the receiver market, starting with Odell Beckham Jr. Here's the latest.

FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys admit they need to add "playmaking juice'' and they admit to liking Odell Beckham Jr. - or, at least team owner Jerry Jones admits to it.

Multiple sources from here inside The Star suggest to us that there is an in-house "debate'' over the concept, at OBJ's reported price-tag wish of $20 mllion APY or of OBJ at any price due to the baggage he would bring.

But our colleague Jordan Schultz is suggesting late Wednesday that there are "positive discussions'' occurring between the two sides, with Beckham "seeking a multi-year contract'' ...

And that Dallas "would like to make it work.''

Beckham has stated his intention to sign with a team that he could call "home,'' his own hint about the "multi-year'' concept. Meanwhile, there is thinking that Michael Gallup's deal in Dallas ($13 million) and JuJu Smith-Schuster's new deal in New England (at $11 million APY) might be more financially appropriate, especially considering OBJ's knee injury history ...

Even as his camp has pronounced him "100-percent healthy.''

"I still got some to do,'' OBJ wrote after his private workout last week for NFL teams. "Let's get it!''

It is inarguable that receiver is an area of need for the Cowboys this offseason; they themselves have essentially cited a lack of weapons for Dak Prescott to work with outside of CeeDee Lamb and Tony Pollard.

Add a wideout somehow, somewhere? Yes, the Cowboys, will be able to do so this offseason. Whether that comes through free agency, the draft, or even a trade, is yet to be seen.

They have been linked multiple times to the big names on the receiver market - guys like Beckham Jr. and DeAndre Hopkins in a potential trade with the Arizona Cardinals, though they continue to suggest they are not deeply involved in talks for Hopkins. Dallas has spoken to Denver about Jerry Jeudy but the Broncos' asking price remains high. Houston's Brandin Cooks is another topic of trade discussions here inside The Star.

The Cowboys also currently own the No. 26 pick in the draft and receiver and tight end are among the rumored targets.

Lamb will continue to be the No. 1 receiver for Prescott after having posted back-to-back 1,000 yard receiving seasons. Beckham hasn't experienced a "WR1'' season since 2019, but maybe he can do it again ...

And maybe it can happen in Dallas, if the "positive discussions'' continue - between Beckham and the Cowboys and between Jones and his top advisors.
