Cowboys Believe Their Offensive Firepower is 'Ridiculous!'
The Dallas Cowboys offense has been one of the most explosive under former coordinator Kellen Moore, and now, under the guidance of Mike McCarthy, more of the same is expected.
With the addition of Brandin Cooks via trade, the Cowboys now have a genuine three-headed monster at receiver with CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup to complement Cooks.
Gallup, as he works his way through camp in Oxnard, says he knows that defenses can't account for everyone.
“It’s going to be tough for them,'' Gallup said. “I’m ready to see what they're going to do; it's going to be tough ... Shoot, you put two people over [Brandin] Cooks or CeeDee [Lamb], somebody's getting open. Then you got TP [Tony Pollard] coming out the back. Oh my gosh, it’s ridiculous.”
With Gallup now feeling mentally 100 percent as he is further removed from his ACL injury, he also will be an important cog in the Dallas offensive machine.
But while it took a long time for Gallup to trust his knee and to get over that mental hurdle, now, he is full-go and isn't looking back.
“Oh, miles [better], I’m in a whole other league now,” Gallup said with a smile. “Feel good, feel great after practice, I’m not trying to find crutches, I’m good. I feel more explosive, like a younger MG."
While much of the attention has been focused on the "Big 3" receivers group, there have been others who have made an impression in Oxnard. One being Jalen Tolbert, but another in a rookie who maybe no one saw coming ... Jalen Brooks.
The seventh-round pick out of South Carolina has made positive impressions during training camp, and Gallup had nothing but praise for his new teammate.
“JB is one of the most explosive dudes I've ever seen,” Gallup said. “He’s a good player, he’s going to be a great asset for us, I love him. That dude right there, he wants to learn everything in the meeting room, he’s going to be a fantastic player.”
With Brooks now thrusting his name into a receiver room that already has Lamb, Cooks, Gallup, Tolbert, Simi Fehoko, and KaVontae Turpin, there are limited spots. But defenses can't cover everyone, and as Gallup stated, someone's going to eat... it's just a question of who is going to feast. And if all of this works out for the Dak Prescott-led offense? "Ridiculous'' might be the right word.
