Dallas Cowboys Report Card: Grades as 'Texas Coast Offense' Explodes in Giants Mauling

The Dallas Cowboys' game against the New York Giants went as expected, as coach Mike McCarthy's team dominated in Sunday's 49-17 win at AT&T Stadium.

Dak Prescott and the "Texas Coast Offense'' continued their impressive form, while coordinator Dan Quinn's defense made life difficult for rookie QB Tommy DeVito.

The Cowboys had themselves a day; after an early red-zone stumble, they ensured they got a quick, clean kill. Such was the performance that Prescott got the entire last quarter off as the game was done.

Prior to the game, we highlighted five keys for the Cowboys to bounce back from their loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last week.

So, what are our post-game grades?

1. Make life hell for Tommy DeVito: BIG PASS As expected, it was a lamb to the slaughter as DeVito was sacked twice while being held to 4/9 for 24 yards and only had one first down while going 0/6 on third down in the first half.

At one stage, on 26 dropbacks, DeVito was pressured on 17 of them as the defense simply swarmed the rookie.

DeVito would finish his day going  14/27 for 86 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception, as he was sacked a total of five times. The two TDs pretty it up, but ... It was a hard day at the office.

2. Get the (perimeter) running game going: PASS ... JUST. While it wasn't the perimeter run game that was a feature, Dallas had 129 rushing yards in the first half and continued its domination in the second.

In total, the Cowboys' run game produced 168 rushing yards (second highest of the season) as Rico Dowdle ( 12 carries, 79 yards, one touchdown) and Tony Pollard (15 carries, 55 yards) did the most damage.

Overall, against a poor Giants defense, the confidence meter on Pollard didn't change, but Dowdle's efforts certainly might have.

3. Keep Dak Prescott and the offense in (CeeDee Lamb) rhythm: BIG PASS It was yet another offensive explosion for the Texas Coast Offense as Prescott (26 of 35, 404 yards, four touchdowns, one interception, along with two carries for 17 yards and a rushing touchdown) was borderline unstoppable.

CeeDee Lamb (11 receptions, 151, one TD, and a rushing TD) and Brandin Cooks (9 receptions, 173 yards, one TD) were superb in the passing game. We also had a Michael Gallup (two catches 70 yards, one touchdown) sighting at AT&T Stadium. Add it all up, and Lamb is ready to declare himself "the top receiver in the game!''

CeeDee: 'I'm The Top Receiver in the Game!'

In total, the Cowboys had 640 total yards in a brutal display of their attacking power, and that rhythm was a sight to behold.

4. Convert third downs against a surprise: PASS While the Giants' defense was stellar against third downs in the last few weeks, the Cowboys and Prescott went 5/9 before Dak sat out the entire last quarter.

The offense scored 28 points in the first half as the Cowboys had three nine-play, 70+ yard drives as the Giants defense has no answer to what McCarthy was cooking up.

Dallas would finish going 6/12 as the second-half game script dictated how aggressive McCarthy was down the stretch, but more often than not, when Dallas needed a conversion, it got it.

 5. Load up to stop Saquon Barkley: BIG PASS Saquon Barkley was the only weapon that could cause Dallas problems, and when the game was there to be won, Quinn's defense held him to just one yard on seven carries in the first half.

With the game in hand, Barkley continued to get carries, finishing his day with 13 carries for just 66 yards, but it was all empty calories as it was job done.
