'New York, New York': Dallas Cowboys Destroy Giants Again In 49-17 Win
ARLINGTON - Back in Week 1, the Dallas Cowboys decimated the New York Giants in a 40-0 rout at MetLife Stadium, the most-lopsided game in the history of the rivalry.
The Cowboys thought that game was so nice that they did it twice, as they blew out their rivals for the second time this season 49-17 here at AT&T Stadium on Sunday.
"That,'' summarized team owner Jerry Jones, "was a good one!''
While the end result was very similar, the way they got there was quite different. Dallas won that Week 1 game on the back of dominant performances from their defense and special teams. While there was still some of that this time around, it was the Cowboys' offense that stole the show.
Dallas moved the ball at will against the hapless New York defense and put up video game-like numbers with 640 yards on the day. The Cowboys' 49 points are also the most they've scored this season, but also marks the third time this season that they've passed the 40-point plateau.
Dak Prescott put together one of the best games of his career, completing 26 of 35 passes for 404 yards and four touchdowns, with a first-quarter interception being the only blemish on his day. He even got to take the entire fourth quarter off with the Cowboys in complete control.
Both Brandin Cooks (nine receptions for 173 yards and a touchdown) and CeeDee Lamb (11 receptions for 151 yards and a touchdown) were both beneficiaries from Prescott's great game. Lamb added another touchdown on the ground, as did running back Rico Dowdle and Prescott himself.
Cowboys vs. 'Goodfellas': QB Tommy DeVito Lives With Mom & Dad, Starts for Giants
Prescott's day? He took a seat early with his four TD passes and his 404 passing yards. This marks the fourth time he's hit that double-double; that's a Dallas franchise record - and it is the eighth-most times, all-time, in NFL history.
Lamb's day? He's now reached the 150-yards receiving mark in three straight games. And with three straight games witgh at least 10 catches, he's the first player in the NFL's Super Bowl era to record that 10/150 in three straight games.
Cornerback DaRon Bland's day? He got his fifth interception of the season, and now has 10 interceptions since the start of 2022 - most in the NFL during that span.
Indeed, on the defensive side of the ball, the Cowboys easily overwhelmed the battered and bruised Giants offense. New York finished the game with just 172 yards, which is amazingly not its lowest total of the season. Third-stringer Tommy DeVito, who was thrust into the starting role after injuries to New York's top two quarterbacks, completed 14 of 27 passes for 86 yards, two touchdowns and an interception while being sacked five times. Saquon Barkley had 66 rushing yards on 13 carries.
After that road bump, the Cowboys will travel to face the 1-8 Carolina Panthers next Sunday.
