Would This 1 Move Complete Cowboys ‘Super’ Roster?

ESPN suggests the Dallas Cowboys should sign kicker Robbie Gould as one final roster move this offseason

The NFL offseason is now mostly complete, and the Dallas Cowboys have done some solid work throughout it.

Dallas wasn't too active in free agency, but made some big moves in the trade market. Namely, acquiring receiver Brandin Cooks and cornerback Stephon Gilmore brought the Cowboys some high-profile players at positions of need. Additionally, the Cowboys are hoping that their 2023 draft class can yield some key contributors right away.

The Cowboys seem pretty happy with their offseason so far, but there is still time to make more moves before the season starts. In particular, they have a glaring need at kicker after parting ways with Brett Maher this offseason. Dallas would like to address that need before the season, and according to ESPN, the best way to do that would be signing former San Francisco 49ers kicker Robbie Gould.

"This one feels about as straightforward as it gets: The Cowboys have a major need for an established presence at kicker and Gould is the best available right now," ESPN writes. "While Brett Maher (currently unsigned) had a regular season full of critical long-distance kicks, he became the only kicker in NFL playoff history to miss four extra points in one game. Gould, on top of being the eighth-most accurate field goal kicker in NFL history, has never missed a postseason kick (extra point or field goal)."

Gould, 40, has been remarkably consistent throughout his career. In 18 seasons, he has made 86.5 percent of his field goals and 97.5 percent of his extra points while also handling kickoffs for many years. As ESPN notes, he is also perfect on kicks in the playoffs.

Kicking was a prevalent issue for the Cowboys throughout the playoffs. Maher was pretty accurate in the regular season, but missed five of his six extra point attempts in the playoffs, including four misses in the Wild Card Round victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

For Dallas, landing a proven veteran kicker in Gould, one of the oldest active players in the league, could be a huge and necessary addition.
