Cowboys Contract Dominos: Next New Deal After Trevon Diggs?

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs secured his long-term future after signing a bumper new deal prior to training camp starting. So, could there be more to follow?

The beginning of training camp in Oxnard is often greeted with a contract extension, and this year Dallas Cowboys' Trevon Diggs continued that trend, signing a five-year deal worth a reported $97 million.

It is due reward for Diggs' outstanding play as he has two Pro Bowl nods and is tied with J.C. Jackson with the most interceptions since 2020. Given he was entering the final year of his rookie contract, Jerry Jones got the checkbook out and secured Diggs' long-term future.

With Diggs now sorted, attention can turn to others in need of an extension. Like who? The likes of Dak Prescott, Micah Parsons (not due, but Dallas would be mindful of what his contract could look like down the line), CeeDee Lamb (although Dallas has contractual control due to his fifth-year option being picked up), Terence Steele, and potentially Zack Martin.

But with Diggs now taking a slice of the salary cap pie, do the Cowboys still feel like they are in a good place financially with others set to command big money?

“I feel really good where we are,” COO Stephen Jones said. “Not only in the intermediate but also long term. I think our contracts are structured in a good way, and we’re very motivated to sign these young guys. We’ve had success in drafting with the young guys we got coming up whether it's Lamb, Micah or Steele or whoever may be coming up.”

With training camp beginning and one contract already being signed, sealed, and delivered, could we see more deals being struck?

The biggest contract domino to fall this offseason would involve quarterback Dak Prescott, whose expected extension could see Dallas' salary cap room expand to nearly $40 million.

“Certainly, it would be a big plus if we could get one or two of these guys signed to longer-term deals," Stephen Jones said.

Dallas could also conduct business with the likes of Jayron Kearse, Dorance Armstrong, Tyler Biadasz, and Malik Hooker as well as all are set to hit the free-agent market next year.

Diggs has gotten the ball rolling and has continued the Cowboys' tradition of getting deals done at the start of training camp. Who will be the next to sign on the dotted line? We may not have to wait too long to find out.
