NFC East BREAKING: Cowboys Rival Eagles Trade for RB D'Andre Swift
FRISCO - In a move a lot of fans of the Dallas Cowboys hoped would happen, the Detroit Lions are trading veteran rusher D'Andre Swift. ... but not to The Star.
Swift is going to the Philadelphia Eagles, giving the Cowboys' rival yet another weapon they'll use to try to defend their NFC East title.
The terms? The Eagles get Swift (who as it happens is a native of Philly) and a seventh-round pick, while the Lions get a seventh-round pick and a fourth-round pick in 2025.
Swift has been efficient as both a rusher and receiver since entering the league. For his career, Swift's pass-catching percentage is over 76 percent. Last season he averaged 5.5 yards per carry in his 14 games played but failed to eclipse 100 carries for the first time in his career and ceded most of the goal-line work to Jamaal Williams.
While Detroit has decided to phase Swift out of their future plans (as they drafted Jahmyr Gibbs in Round 1, the former second-round pick Swift is still only 24 years old, and his best football may still be ahead of him.
The Cowboys parted ways with Ezekiel Elliott this offseason, and Dallas could use another running back capable of operating in their offense without a drop-off in skill when Tony Pollard needs a breather, a role that Swift is capable of thriving in. Maybe Dallas will get such a guy in the back half of this draft.
But for now? The Eagles are loading up on former Georgia stars - Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith and Keele Ringo in this NFL Draft, plus Swift - and they are loading up in general.
