How Jalen Carter is 'The LeBron of the Philadelphia Eagles'

Philadelphia Eagles rookie defensive lineman Jalen Carter is unusually strong. And, as he's off to a great start in his NFL career, it turns out he may be unusually savvy as well.

In what some are calling "trolling,'' Carter channeled Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James during the Eagles’ Week 7 win over the Miami Dolphins, and then afterward explained his theatrical actions.

“I was just thinking about LeBron,” Carter said of how he "flopped'' to punctuate a scuffle with Dolphins offensive lineman Austin Jackson, thus earning a penalty that benefitted the 6-1 Eagles. “I was like, ‘Oh, what would LeBron do?''

Is that a "dig'' at LeBron? Or should we interpret Carter's clever action and his clever words as an inspired "tribute'' to King James?

We lean toward the latter, as surely no young athlete wishes to step on the Superman cape of "The Chosen One.'' But moreover, we admire the astute nature of what Carter is doing and saying here.

Carter, the 22-year-old first-round pick, is racking up numbers as he has totaled 13 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and a couple of forced fumbles in what has been a stellar seven-game debut for the standout from the University of Georgia.

Carter is helping the Eagles to be able to stake a claim as being the NFL's best team. And as Philadelphia goes on the road in Week 8 hoping to complete the season sweep of the NFC East rival Washington Commanders on Sunday, Carter is also helping the Eagles stake a claim as being one of the NFL's most clever teams.
