Eagles Ex QB Carson Wentz a Free Agency Fit with Packers?
Former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz continues to be available in the free agent market following his release from the Washington Commanders after just one season in D.C.
This past season with Washington, Wentz endured a challenging year, starting in seven games and finishing with a disappointing record of 2-5. Throughout the season, he accumulated 1,755 passing yards, along with 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
With the likelihood of Wentz needing to embrace a backup role to continue his NFL career, CBS Sports suggests that the 30-year-old quarterback could find a suitable fit as the backup signal-caller for the Green Bay Packers.
"Lost in Green Bay's transition from Aaron Rodgers to Jordan Love is the fact the Packers have yet to add a single experienced backup for their new quarterback," CBS Sports writes. "Wentz may be mercurial, but he's a battle-tested veteran in contrast to current reserves Sean Clifford and Danny Etling. He'd also be closer to his Midwestern roots."
As Love prepares for his first season as a starting quarterback, acquiring a backup with valuable experience becomes crucial, especially considering the combined zero starts of the other quarterbacks on the Packers roster. Wentz, having started a total of 92 games throughout his career, could provide the much-needed expertise.
Green Bay presents a logical destination for Wentz, as it offers the opportunity for him to step in if Love encounters difficulties or sustains an injury. This situation could provide Wentz with a chance to showcase his abilities and potentially regain the form of an NFL starting quarterback.
