REPORT: Philadelphia Eagles TE Dallas Goedert Fractures Forearm, Headed for Surgery, IR
PHILADELPHIA – Injuries have been difficult for the Philadelphia Eagles to escape this year, and the latest is tight end Dallas Goedert.
It was reported by NFL Media that Goedert suffered a fractured right foreman when he tried to stiff-arm Dallas Cowboys safety Markquese Bell after making a reception late in the third quarter of the Eagles’ 28-23 victory over the Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday.
Goedert is expected to have surgery on Monday and placed on injured reserve, according to the report. The injury, however, isn’t expected to sideline him for the rest of the season and the tight end could return perhaps in time for the playoffs, assuming the 8-1 Eagles can seal the deal and make the postseason.
The tight end ended his game against the Cowboys with three catches for 50 yards. For the season, he has 38 catches for 410 yards and two touchdowns.
Last year, Goedert missed five games with a shoulder injury and the Eagles went 5-0 in those games.
Albert Okwuegbunam, who was acquired after training camp from the Denver Broncos, could be in line for more snaps. He played six snaps on Sunday after Goedert left.
The Eagles had already lost Goedert’s close friend and slot cornerback Avonte Maddox for the season with a torn pectoral suffered in Week 2.
They have also had others land on IR during the season, including linebacker Nakobe Dean, safety Justin Evans, receiver Quez Watkins, and offensive lineman Cam Jurgens.
Dean suffered a foot injury during the game against Dallas. It was a foot injury that initially landed him on IR after the season opener.
Jurgens had his 21-day practice window opened last week, but he hasn’t been activated, yet.
The Eagles are on their bye week and won’t return until playing at the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night football Nov. 20.
Also in need of some time to heal is quarterback Jalen Hurts, who reaggravated a knee injury, which has been reported as a bone bruise.
Hurts’ knee was banged during a sack from Micah Parsons with 32 seconds left in the first half. The quarterback returned in the second half, however, and led the Eagles comeback from a 17-14 halftime deficit.
Hurts had no trouble sidestepping a question about his knee after the win.
“I don’t really know what to say,” he said. “It was a gritty win, it was a gritty win. It was a tough win. Much respect to that team. Always very competitive and have great players, but I don’t think the bye week could come at a better time.”
