Eagles QB Jalen Hurts: Philly's Top Super Bowl Piece?

The Philadelphia Eagles have a lot of players who could prove to be building block types, but quarterback Jalen Hurts, receiver A.J. Brown, and edge defender Josh Sweat are leading the convocation.
In this story:

There’s no shortage of talent on the Philadelphia Eagles roster, even after the departure of several big names this offseason.

Still, when Pro Football Focus set out to identify the three Eagles players the team should be building around, it came up with two that we’d expected, and one we didn’t.

All starting with Jalen Hurts, the quarterback who led Philadelphia to the Super Bowl in just his second year as the full-time starter.

Just like the season, however, he didn’t make this list alone and is joined by receiver A.J. Brown.

“The reunion of two old friends in Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown led to immediate fireworks,” PFF writes. “And there’s no reason they can’t get back to the big game a few more times.

As much attention as we and everyone else spends on the Eagles’ offense, the defense deserves credit all their own as well after standing up in some critical moments during the run to the Super Bowl.

Because of that, the coordinator and several starters from the unit are now elsewhere, but among those remaining is a key young edge rusher by the name of Josh Sweat.

“Sweat may appear to be a confusing choice from Philadelphia’s absolutely loaded defense,” PFF continued. “He’s the youngest stud on a unit that boasts a ton of veteran talent.”

The popular grading site also notes that Sweat is one of three edge defenders in the NFL who earned run-defense and pass-rush grades better than 80, joining Nick Bosa of the San Francisco 49ers and Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders in that achievement.

Looking at Philadelphia, it’s easy to see this team as one who’s Super Bowl window is just opening, and isn’t likely to close anytime soon.

This can be attributed to the young talent like Hurts, Brown, and Sweat. If the Eagles continue to build around them like PFF suggests, we could be feeling championship-inspiring winds flowing around the team for a while.
